Fiber Optic Connector Types

There are several types of fiber optic connectors available today. The most common are: ST, SC, FC, MT-RJ and LC style connectors.

All of these types of connectors can be used with either multimode of singlemode fiber.

There are three types of polishes which can be applied to a fiber connector: PC or Physical contact, UPC or Ultra Physical contact and APC or Angled Physical contact.

Each polish type exhibits a different level of back reflection. Back reflection is a measure of the light reflected off the end of a fiber connector. This light is measured in decibals.

For certain applications, the amount of back reflection on a fiber connector is critical.

How to Ensure your Network is Locked Down

If you are setting up a business network security should be one of your chief concerns. Any good small business network will be protected by both hardware and software firewalls that should be configured by a trained networking professional. However, further steps should be taken to protect both the network hardware and the valuable information that it stores.

Electrical power

Perhaps one of the greatest threats to computer networks is power surges and voltage spikes. In fact, it is not unknown for computers, servers and peripherals on entire networks to be destroyed by power surges when they have been left unprotected.

Because of this, some form of surge protector is essential that will prevent voltage spikes from damaging equipment. This should either block the surge or short the system so the voltage spike does not reach the equipment.



Most networks will also use uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) to prevent brief power cuts from shutting down the network. These can ensure that the network stays up and running for anything for a few minutes to a number of hours depending on the equipment.

Any small business that has more than one computer should have a network. A network allows all computers to connect and share data between each other, share an internet connection and share peripherals such as printers and fax machines.

The average small business network will require devices to connect to each other and access the internet. While many businesses still use wired local area networks (LANs), wireless networks are becoming increasingly popular. However, many modern businesses combine the two. Based on this model, the primary features of the network should be as follows:



Wired Local Area Network (LAN) - This will connect all desktops, peripherals and servers. It's possible to make the connection via a hub. However, the best option is to use switches where information is only sent to the intended recipient on the network. Switches use MAC—hardware—addresses to identify where information should be sent. Because devices are connected by Ethernet cable, transfer speeds are generally very fast.

Macbook Air HardDrive Replacement

This was made using Quicktime and iMovie on my Macbook Pro.

This is the first Macbook Air we've had to service so far, the hard drive had failed. Sadly, since there is no way (as of yet) to connect these drives to any form of external enclosure, all data was lost.

Also, installing Leopard over Airport took 5 hours after the replacement!

I decided against just talking in this one, felt it would be far too boring, so to keep interest, you have "teh uber 1337" music!

There is a lot of cut editing in this, because i had to get it under 10 minutes, so thats why it jumps a bit at times.

ASUS to unveil its new 8.9-inch wide 'Eee PC 900'

HANNOVER, Germany (AVING Special Report on 'CeBIT 2008')ASUS unveiled its new 8.9-inch wide notebook pc 'Eee PC 900' during CeBIT 2008, which differs from its 7-inch predecessor model in that both it is equipped with wide screen and a speaker is moved next to USB slot on the left side.

The Eee PC 900 incorporated two modes of operation system: Linux and Windows XP, and each model adopted 12GB SSD and 8GB SSD respectively.

Meanwhile, ASUS rolled out its new Windows version of a 7-inch Eee PC at this show. The EeePC 900 is expected to be available in 2Q, 2008 for 399(EUR).
